Out in the garden - What a fantastic adventure we had today with toddlers. One of our focuses this month is gardening. So what better way to give the children a gardening experience then to take them outside into the Junior Junction vege garden. “ohhhhh pumpkin” said Kane as he pointed it out. Leisharne enjoyed hopping from stepping stone to stepping stone. We had a wonderful experience with the children. Unfortunately we could not enjoy this activity with the entire class as we had to venture in small groups for safety reasons, but this did not stop tui room toddlers from having lots of fun. “Leon will water garden” a little voice said to Kerri so he helped her to turn the sprinkler on and we all stood on the deck and watched the garden get watered. We had so much fun and look forward to more days out in the vege garden. Excellent job toddlers.
Wonderful World of Water Play - Yay! Summer is here and in Tui room, that means lots of time outside in the fresh air enjoying the summer days. An important part of outside play is various water activities. Your teachers have enjoyed setting up different water play activities like water and water animals, detergent to have foaming water play, coloured water, floating and sinking objects and splashing water to cool us all down. Foaming Fun In The Sun What a hot day it is today. Tui room and Kiwi room combined an outside water play activity with the help of your teachers Donna and Val. Donna poured detergent into the blue trough outside while Val filled it up with water. We all sat and watched with anticipation as the trough overflowed and hundreds of bubbles went all in the sand pit. “Oooooohhhh BUBBLES” the children shouted as they raced over to explore. Soon the sand pit was covered in white foaming bubbles. Connor, Benjamin and Cody wasted no time getting themselves covered in bubbles and water. This activity was a joy as Tui room and Kiwi room children interacted together very nicely.
Toddlers + Sunscreen = FUN - What fun we had today applying sunscreen to ourselves. It is very important for children to be aware of the benefits of having sunscreen on before going outside. Today we thought it would be nice to teach the children how to apply it. Everyone lined up and Donna squirted a small amount into each child’s palm. “Oooooh” said Leon as he looked at it closely. Some of the children did not know what to do with it. They sniffed it, wiped it onto their clothes. Some even tasted it. Sian applied some onto herself as an example and in no time, all the children were applying the sunscreen and wiping it into their skin. We have decided to make this a part of our monthly goals. We also have incorporated a check list for when each child has sunscreen on. Sun screen is applied twice a day and sunhats are encouraged for children as well as teachers. Well done toddlers.
