PLANNING

The baby room focuses on individual planning.  Each month the staff watch the children and look for a recurring interest or developmental need for the child to work on for the following month. Every month each child will receive a written observation and from this we will set a goal for your child with ideas and activities designed to help extend and develop them.

Each observation will have the following:

Observation

A story about the child and where the interest or developmental need arose

What learning is happening

The learning that is talking place throughout this observation for the child.

A Link to Te Whaariki

A link from the New Zealand’s Early Childhood Curriculum which we follow.

The child’s individual goal

A goal developed from the observation, the learning that is taking place and Te Whaariki.

What next?

This is how the staff will help develop and further the child’s interest and goal.

The planning is displayed on the wall near the kitchen. Here you can view the children’s goal and see photos of them working towards achieving them.

Their learning story is located in their individual portfolio.

TEACHERS

Donna Mcleod is the Head Teacher in the Babies Room.  She has been working in early childhood education since 2003.  Donna is passionate about providing a positive, safe learning environment where children get to be children, grow develop and work out how the world around them works at their own pace.

"I love seeing and being a part of the babies reaching their milestones and seeing how proud they are of themselves and the joy in their eyes."

Ruby Rouru is a teacher in the babies room and aims to provide a fun and enjoyable environment where children can learn while also "being kids".

"Every working day is rewarding, being a part of each child's magical moments, laughter and smiles, is the main reason for my passion for working with children.
It's a bonus that each day starts and ends differently. I enjoy trying and participating in new things and working with children allows me that privilege."

Hope George
is a teacher in the babies room.  She is a trained primary teacher, and finds working in early childhood much more rewarding. She has worked with young children most of her life, and loves having the chance to have fun while she works!

“Being a part of the teaching team in the babies room is great! I feel so privileged to be a part of a great group of people, and it is so much fun coming to work each day having fun, never knowing what kind of excitement will come next.”
